mindful

Thursdays are my mindful days. A time to work on ongoing knitting projects that have been passed over for the new and exciting projects, putter in the garden, make a pot of soup, you know, that sort of thing. It has been very cool and rainy all this week. I have started working on my doll quilt too. My swap partner requested something retro or vintage, and after going through all my quilting supplies, I visited a couple of the local quilt stores last weekend. My favourite store has changed ownership and so has different choices available. I did find some retro fabrics and started the little quilt. So far this is the quilt top in progress.

It is a different palette softer and with different tones, and is slowly coming together.

The garden is blooming beautifully with all the rain. These foxgloves are a favourite, can you believe all the different colours from one plant.
And this is the first climbing rose which opened today.
On my reading list two great books both about gardening.
The 100 mile diet-a year of local eating got me hooked right away. For more go here. It is about an adventure to eat only locally sourced foods and the bigger picture of our food system. Fantastic book. Also reading, the Urban Gardener by Elspeth Thompson, a collection of short pieces of her time growing an allotment garden in South London. Another wonderful writer and she has a website. Now I'm off to finish planting the beans. Between thundershowers.

The striped fabric on the quilt is my favorite... is the store still your favorite after the ownership change?

I love the fabrics on your little quilt. Beautiful! They are similar to the colors I'm using in a quilt I am working on and I find it cheering to sew on these colors.

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I would not have found your blog otherwise. I see you like flowers like I do. I love the foxgloves but hadn't had any luck with them. Maybe I will try again.

Your little quilt is very sweet and I love that you call Thursday your mindful day!

If you likes the 100 mile diet, you may also like to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It is a wonderful book!
